I’ve never done this kind of activity before, can I still attend?
Yes! And most people will be brand new too, so you’ll not be alone. No experience is needed whatsoever, unless specified in certain classes and for the open training.
I’m not very fit or flexible, will I still be able to do pole/hoop?
Absolutely, and these classes are perfect to help with fitness and flexibility if that is your aim. As long as the docs have given you the all clear to do this kind of exercise you’re good to go!
I have a disability/condition that affects me, can I still attend?
Any concerns please drop us a message and we can arrange a free of charge no pressure chat at the studio to go over what sort of moves we’d be doing and learn best how we can support you if we’re able to.
What do I wear?!
For pole, the less the better! Bare skin helps to grip onto the pole for support. Shorts and tshirt/vest top is ideal. But leggings/jogging bottoms are absolutely fine if that’s what you’re most comfortable with. And if you want to get dressed up, that’s fab too! Just stay away from zips or any metal studs as these can scratch the pole, so rings and jewellery must be removed or covered. We mostly go barefoot or wear socks, pole specific heels are more than welcome if you’re doing moves you’re safe in.
For hoop, skin covered is best or it hurts! Fitted clothing is ideal, also cotton grips the hoop better than shiny technical fabric, but whatever you’re comfortable in is fine.
Please wash your hands before starting the session, and don’t apply moisturiser to any parts of you that will have any contact will the pole/hoop on the day you’re booked, as this can make the equipment slippy and dangerous for yourself and anyone using it afterwards.
How do I find you?
Our address is A8 Haig Enterprise Park, Whitehaven, CA28 9AN. We’re on google maps if you search West Coast Sirens. When you enter the business park we’re right opposite the back of the old mining museum. You’ll see Block A, just head to the left and look for our sign!
Is there parking?
Yes, loads!
What should I expect in a class?
We’ll start with a full warm up, including pulse raiser and workout specific muscle activation and mobilisation. Without taking part in the warm up our insurance doesn’t cover us so please be sure to arrive in good time as late comers won’t be able to join the class.
We then move on to the poles/hoops, there are usually two people per pole/hoop as it’s a tough activity and taking it turns allows a well deserved rest. Everything is taught progressively and to everyone’s own level. No one is under any pressure to do anything they’re not comfortable with, and you’re more than welcome to take a break either on a seat in the class or in our waiting area. We’ll offer options to people working at different levels so there will be something for everyone.
Not found what you’re looking for?
Please don’t hesitate to drop us an email at westcoastsirens@outlook.com and we’re more than happy to help! We understand it can be so nerve wracking doing this kind of thing for the first time, so anything we can do to ease that do let us know. Sarah
